How Northwind cut weekly reporting to an hour

Product Lead

Northwind’s four-person data team supports three hundred people across sales, operations and finance. Until this spring, Monday belonged to the weekly business review deck.

The Monday problem

Pulling twelve numbers, checking them against last week and writing what changed took most of a day. Questions about the deck took most of Tuesday.

What they changed

The team defined the twelve metrics once, set monitors on the six that move fastest and scheduled a digest to the leadership channel at 8:00 on Mondays. Questions now go to Tessel first.

“We got our Mondays back, and the questions we do get are better ones,” says Priya Raman, who leads the team.
